    Digital Signage for Campus Communication

Siena College has deployed electronic screens throughout multiple departments using our digital signage platform. The free platform that we offer, Rise Vision, is built on the Google App Engine that is available through the Chrome Web Store. Siena’s IT department controls the master Rise Vision account and creates sub-accounts for each department on campus to allow them to individually manage their own signs’ content and schedules.

Our platform allows departments to maintain their own content and play it in presentations controlled by other departments. For example, the Student Senate manages several displays on the campus and has set up content areas on their own presentations where content from Athletics and Academic Affairs can be displayed. This allows content creators to maintain their specific content without relying on the display managers to update that content.

    Powering the Digital Signage

To power their digital signage, Siena chose Chromeboxes. The preconfigured Chromeboxes are plug and play. The speed with which they boot up and run the presentations is much better than that of other players we have used in the past (including Raspberry Pi, Windows, and Linux-based players). Their small form factor and low power consumption make them an ideal digital signage player.

    Why Digital Signage On Campus?

Digital signage offers many benefits to a campus. It is a great tool for wayfinding, alerts, business labs, donor recognition and more. Digital signage may seem like a daunting and expensive investment. However, by leveraging our platform and low-cost plug-and-play media players, you can actually set up a large digital signage network inexpensively and quickly.

"Incorporating digital signage on campus is a surefire way to attract attention. Students are conditioned to look to digital devices for information, so digital signage is a perfect fit in higher education institutions." Digital Signage Today

Digital signage represents a great opportunity to engage with students in a number of ways. By using interactive displays, passive displays with relevant information and calls to action, you can engage both existing and prospective students. Another interesting way to get students involved with digital signage is by having some of them involved in the design and management of the content, similar to producing a school newspaper.
