What are Network Operators?

Digital Signage Network Operators are experts in the Rise Vision platform. They have a lot of options in the Rise Vision display software platform. They can:

  • Brand the system
  • Have an unlimited number of client Companies and Displays in their Network
  • Create and share Template Presentations and Gadgets
  • Have their own Demonstration Presentations
  • Provide a custom login URL for Users to sign up and access the Rise Vision platform directly on their website, or any website
  • Provide a custom logout URL for Users to get feedback or provide them with links to support or other add-on products
  • Track the status of their Network using Google Analytics

Tier 2 Network Operators can even create other Network Operators, but more on that later. Check out this video for more information on what Network Operators can do.

Manage and Brand your Customer Portal

One of the perks of being a Network Operator is that you create a branded portal. This way your client Companies see exactly what you want them to see.

To setup your portal, click the Network link on the menu bar. The portal properties include:

  • Logo URL: This is typically your company logo and it’s the image that displays in the top left corner while you are logged into the system. Maximum dimensions are 234 x 60 pixels.
  • Logo Target URL: The URL that opens in a separate tab when a user clicks on the Logo image – typically a page on your corporate web site.
  • Use Adsense Banner: For Network Operators who use Google Adsense, you can use a Google Adsense banner instead of a traditional URL banner. Check the Use Adsense Banner checkbox, and enter the Adsense Campaign ID and Adsense Slot Name. If you use a Google Adsense banner, the options for Banner and Banner Target URL are no longer be available.
  • Banner URL: The image that displays across the top of each page, located to the immediate right of the logo image – could be used for promotional messages, a corporate tagline, attractive graphics, pretty much anything. Maximum dimensions are 468 x 60 pixels. When you set your Banner URL, you won’t see it when you are logged into your Company. This is because the Banner URL for the Network Operator directly above you is what shows up when you are logged in. Your client Companies see your Banner URL.
  • Banner Target URL: The URL that opens in a separate tab when a user clicks on the Banner – typically a page on your corporate web site.
  • Banner Background Color: The color of the horizontal band that appears across the top of and spans the entire width of the page. Even if you have a Logo and Banner URL, the  color shows behind if the images are smaller than the size of the banner area.
  • Help URL/Email: The URL or email address that displays when a user clicks the Help link, located in the upper right corner. The default is the Rise Vision help center. If the field is blank, the Help link isn’t displayed.
  • Support URL/Email: The URL or email address that displays when a user clicks the Support link, located in the upper right corner. The default is the Rise Vision forum. If the field is blank, the Support link isn’t displayed.
  • Sales URL/Email: The URL or email address that displays when a user clicks the Sales link, located in the upper right corner. The default is the Rise Vision forum. If the field is blank, the Sales link isn’t displayed.
  • News URL: The URL that displays when a user clicks the News link, located in the upper right corner. This could link to a third party news page (e.g., CNN, etc.) or to a company news page on your website. The default is the Rise Vision blog. If the field is blank, the News link isn’t displayed.
  • Logout URL: If you want to redirect your Users to a specific webpage when they log out of Rise Vision you can enter the URL of this page here. This is a great option to further promote what you do for your Users, get feedback or provide them with links to support or other add-on products that you might have created. If the field is blank, Users are taken to the Rise Vision logout page.
  • Show Tutorial: The pop up box of video tutorials that shows up when Users log in. Uncheck if you do not want the tutorial tour pop up box to open front and center when the Users of any of your client Companies logs in.
  • Allow New Registrations:  Enabling this setting allows Network Operators to provide a login URL on their website, or any website for that matter, for Users to access the Rise Vision platform directly, as well as offer Users the ability to sign up. If a User signs up from this login URL, their Company is created under that Network Operator. The URL that Network Operators can provide is http://rva.risevision.com?parentId={ID}; replacing the brackets and ID with the actual ID of the Network Operator Company. You can find your Company ID in the browser’s address bar; it is the alphanumeric digits following company=.
  • Google Analytics ID: Enter the Google Analytics ID to track visitor statistics for your Network.
  • Operator Start Presentation: You can choose a Presentation that you would like to appear each time a User in your Network Operator Company logs in. Great for promoting your company messages, services and products. If you don’t want one to show, hit Delete.
  • User Start Presentation: Exactly the same as the Operator Start Presentation except this one only appears for Users in your client Companies. Just another way to better tailor your message to your Users. If you don’t want one to show, hit Delete.
  • Demonstration Presentations:  You can choose which content shows up for newly added Displays that are not assigned to a Schedule, or Displays that have been marked inactive. Depending on the screen resolution of the physical monitor, the appropriate content shows up. Simple as that.

Clicking the “Default” link for any option sets it to the default value that has been assigned in the Network Operator company.

Managing Client Companies

So you’re all set to start building your Network. You can create and update Users, Displays, Presentations, Schedules, and Gadgets in any client Company at any time, and all Shared Gadgets and Template Presentations from your Network Operator Company are available to them. When a Company is marked inactive or deleted, all the Users and Displays in the Company are marked inactive as well. When a User tries to log into a deleted or inactive Company, they get the message that the Company has been marked inactive or deleted, and are given the option to create a new one using the Google account they are trying to log in with. Upon the Company being marked inactive or deleted, all Displays in that Company begin to display the appropriate Demonstration Presentations as defined in the Network Operator Company. If a Company is marked active again, all Users and Displays must be marked active again manually.

Let’s go over some of the options in managing your client Companies. Click the Settings link in the menu bar, and above your Company name, there are three options:

Add a Company

  1. Click the Add a Company link and enter the information in the fields displayed for the Company you want to add.
  2. Click Save to save your newly added Company.
  3. After pressing Save, you are now on the Settings page for that Company. How simple was that!

Move a Company

  1. If a User already has a Company and wants to be in your Network, click the Move a Company link and enter the Authentication Key (see My Company Details to find out how to get it) of the Company you want to move.
  2. If the Key is valid it displays the name of the Company for you to confirm if that is who you want to move.
  3. If it is, press Accept, and that Company is now a client Company in your Network.

Switch to a Company

  1. After pressing the Switch to a Company link, the Select Company pop up dialog displays.
  2. Click the Select link beside the name of the Company you want to access. You can now interact with their Display Network as though it were your own.
  3. To go back to your Company hit the Reset link beside the current Company name in the top right.
  4. If you want to delete a Company from your Network, you just click Delete, confirm the deletion, and then save the change.
  5. If you want to mark a Company inactive, change the status from Active to Inactive, and then save the change.

There are a number of ways you can search and arrange Companies in this window. You can search for a single character, which will retrieve all Companies that start with that character, or you can search where the term is found in the middle of the name; For example searching for “Company” will retrieve “Bob’s Company”. Searches are not case sensitive, and you can search by Company Name, ID or any part of the Address. When you do a search, Companies that are under Companies you have created under you are included in the search, but if no search criteria is entered, only Companies directly under your Network Operator Company will be displayed. Press Search or hit the Enter key on your keyboard to start the search, and pressing the “x” button will clear the search box. The list of Companies is sortable by the up/down arrow next to each column header, and if you have more than 50 Companies, scroll to the bottom of the page, and more Companies will be displayed. By default, 50 results are displayed at a time, and older results are kept within the list when new ones are loaded.

Making a Client Company a Network Operator

Need to make a client Company a Network Operator? No problem. Before we explain how this is done, let’s clarify the heirarchy:

  • Tier 1 – Rise Vision
  • Tier 2 – This is you.
  • Tier 3 – These are your clients that you give the role of Network Operator to.

Tier 1 and Tier 2 both have a User role called “System” that can be applied to any User in the Company. In order to assign a Company as a Network Operator, you need the “Administrator” and “System” User roles. To see if you have these roles, click on your username. If you don’t have the Administrator or System User roles, you’ll need an existing Administrator to assign them to you. Tier 3 Users CANNOT be assigned the System User role. This means that Network Operator Companies that you create under your Company, are not able to create Network Operators under them. They can create Companies, but not Network Operator Companies. Now that we are all clear on that, let’s learn how to upgrade a Company to a Network Operator.

  1. Switch to the Company that you want to upgrade to a Network Operator.
  2. At the very top of the page, next to the name of the Company and their current status, you’ll see the option to Upgrade.
  3. Hit Upgrade to change the status to Network Operator, and then Save, and you’re done. They are now a Network Operator.
  4. To remove the Network Operator status, simply click Downgrade and then press Save. You’re asked to confirm the downgrade, and once you press Okay, they are back to a regular Company. All Companies that were under that Network Operator are moved under Rise Vision.

Changing a Company’s Network Operator

If you have more than one Network Operator in your Network, you can switch non Network Operator Companies between them. This is a great option if you have a Network Operator that may be offering unique services that their existing Network Operator does not.

  1. Switch to the Company in which you want change the Network Operator.
  2. At the very bottom of all their Company information, it shows their current Network Operator, with a link beside it marked Change.
  3. Click the Change link, and from the dropdown menu, select the Network Operator you watch to change to and press Save.
  4. Press Save again on the Company page, and the Network Operator has now been changed.

A couple of notes on the Presentation preview bar in regards to the “Allow New Registrations” setting: All Presentations can be previewed in a browser, and part of the Presentation preview is the “preview bar”. You can read more about Presentations here. If Allow New Registrations is enabled, the Login link in the Presentation preview bar signs up a user who does not have an account under the Network Operator that the Presentation being previewed belongs to. If Allow New Registrations is not enabled, the User’s account is created under Rise Vision. Users who press the Login link and are already registered are logged into their account.
