Video is a vital part of digital signage, so Rise Vision has set out to ensure that your videos are always ready to go.
The Video Gadget has evolved into the Video Item, and there are three big changes that will benefit you.
The Video Item will download your videos to a local location on your Display and will play the videos from that local location. In the past, any videos you play through the Video Gadget would be loaded in the Browser instance, taking up resources, and hogging bandwidth. With the videos now local, resources and bandwidth are freed up for other tasks.
Because the videos are stored locally, the Video Item doesn’t require an internet connection to play the videos, so the Video Item will play all cached videos in your Presentation if you lose your internet connection.
Any videos in the local cache that have not played for 30 days will be automatically deleted. You won’t have to worry about local storage space.
A couple of notes: The supported file formats for video playback are MP4 (H.264 encoded), MOV (H.264 encoded), and FLV. The Video Gadget does not cache videos, only the Video Item does. If you want to use this new functionality, replace all the Video Gadgets in your Presentation with Video Items.
You can find more information about the Video Item on our Presentations help page. It’s released to the open source community on our project site. And, as always, we are happy to chat with you about these on our forum.
